The Harry Potter Tag

Hey cuties.
Feeling mega nerd/bookworm inspired after watching my bestie Becca's Harry Potter Tag (find it HERE!) so I wanted to do it too!
Hers will 100% be better because it's a video and I'm just typing but my inner nerd is still here and present, just hiding behind my laptop screen!

Wingardium leviosa, let's go.

1. Favourite Book?

Order of the Phoenix. I just love the idea of a secret house being hidden in the middle of a normal terraced street. I love to hate Dolores Umbridge, and she's just such a huge part of that book. I imagine that's what I'll dress like when I'm like 70 - all in pink and tweed skirt suits, mind you I'm not aiming to be such a bitch! The way she's talked in a book is exactly in my mind how she should have looked in the movie so I was thrilled with that!

2. Favourite movie?

The Deathly Hallows - Can I have part one and two?! I can't split them in my brain because in theory they are the same book... But if I had to chose it would be part 1. I love when Ron comes back and saves Harry from drowning in the lake.. Plus the bit when Harry and Hermione kind of get it on in some weird holographic format is just so perfect. Not in a sexual way obvs because that is eh like majah weird, but the way that it winds Ron up is just filmed so brilliantly. *inserts clappy hands emoji*

3. Least favourite book?

Same as Becca on this one - The Prisoner of Azkaban.. Just doesn't really do it for me that much! I didn't like the movie either, nothing particularly important/life-changing/drastic happens in it so it's definitely more of a snoozefest than the rest!

4. Parts of the books/movies that made you cry?

Right, so I'm an emotional mess when it comes to films, so a lot of it made me cry... Sirius dying/Dobby dying/Dumbledore dying/Snape turning out to be a good guy/Harry and Hermione at Harry's parents grave on Christmas eve/When they're all grown up/When any characters die/When anything at all happens in the book and or movie/When I breathe. K.

5. If you could hook up with any character, who would it be?

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM AKA MATTHEW LEWIS.
Lets all just take a moment and look below.

That is all.

6. Favourite character?

Hermione Granger. It has to be really. She is the epitome of girl power, she's educated, she's hilarious, she's sarcastic, she's got one hell of a right hook (i.e. when she lamps Draco one) aaaaand she turns into one helluva woman crush wednesday by the end of the 8th movie. Queen.

7. What would your Patronus be?

Easy, an owl. If it was anything else I wouldn't want to be a wizard.
Okay I probably would, but I'd be pretty gutted if it wasn't an owl.

8. If you could have the resurrection stone, the invisibility cloak or the elder wand, what would you choose?

I think I'd want the invisibility cloak... I love being nosey, I can't deny that. So it's probably my dream to be able to sit in a room and listen to other peoples conversations and business without them knowing I was there. Sneaky sneaky.

9. What house would you be in?

I've done the Pottermore test, and not even specifically for this tag. I done it agessss ago, I was one of those people that maybe registered for early access to Pottermore, but anyway... And I have some bad news guys.
I'm in Hufflepuff.
I'm so disappointed, I thought I was a Gryffindor through and through.. But alas.
Hufflepuffs are said to be "patient and unafraid of toil" which I suppose does kind of sum me up. I'm not afraid of working hard, so I guess it's a fair representation. But I think deep down, everyone wants to be a Gryffindor.

10. If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?

Daniel Radcliffe, to me he's so interesting and funny. He'd have some amazing and probably scary stories to tell after his substance abuse problems but I'd love to meet him to hear all about it from his own mouth, rather than what you read online & in the news.

11. Have you played any of the video games?

Oh yes. For my Nintendo, my Playstation and my Wii. I had games for them all. Loved them. Was shit at spells though, Flitwick hated me. Wingardium Leviosaaaaaah.

12. If you were on the Quidditch team, what position would you play?

I'm like the most unsporty person to have ever graced the planet. The only position I ever played in football/netball/hockey was goalie so I guess I'd have to be the Keeper! I'd probably get hit on the head with by a bludger, fall off my broom, get stuck in a hoop and die up there though.

Tumblr mymo1tjGpP1qelkufo1 250

13. Where you happy with the ending?

YES! I know I said I cried up there ^^^ but it was tears of happiness and relief. I don't think I could have coped if Harry had died, I think it would have ruined everything for me! And I love the bit when they go back and they're all grown up. ALL THE TEARS.

14. How much does Harry Potter mean to you?

I honestly love it so much, it's my favourite set of books, my favourite set of films, favourite cast of a movie, favourite special effects of a movie. I'm not obsessed with it as in I feel like I need to watch the movies at least once a month etc.. But I have read like the first 5 books 8 times each or something, and watched the films countless times. It was the first thing I ever really 'got in to' when I was growing up so it holds a very happy place in my heart. And like Becca I will be forcing Harry Potter upon my children whether they like it or not!

Hogwartscrest

Hope you've enjoyed this slightly nerdier side of me!
I'm sure this hasn't appealed to everyone but it's satisfied my nerd cravings for now!
I tag anyone who's even mildly interested in Harry Potter to do the tag and send me your links!

But for now my friends...xxx

2014 Favourites.

Hey guys.

2014 was a year of big change in my life - finishing the easy years of my degree (year 1 and 2 ... what a breeeeeze), breaking up (officially forevz) with a serious long term boyfriend, moving to LANDAN (or the outskirts anyways), getting a grown up job, having real life responsibilities, not having a lot of time for friends, and just general change.

Change doesn't freak me out, some people get real anxiety over it, but thankfully I'm not one of those people.
All the changes have resulted in me discovering a lot of new things and things I have fallen in love with.

So I'm gonna do a quick post, nearly like I'm making up my own blog tag of things I've discovered in 2014 and became obsessed with and are now my 'favourites'.

Favourite food?
CHICKEN KATSU CURRY FROM WAGAMAMAS.
Like until about February the only thing I'd ever really tried from a Chinese restaurant was chicken balls with fried rice & chips, and then smothered it in ketchup. So katsu curry is a big step for me. Becca's still pretty shocked I liked it. We went to Wagamamas twice over Christmas (err, oops), and the first time I got ramen and she got pad thai. Don't stray from katsu, that's all I'm telling ya.
Chicken katsu is bae.

Honestly, I'm drooling at that.
Favourite pasttime?
RELAXING. Oh my god. What a dream a lie-in at the weekend is. It's made of heavenly things. Don't take 'me-time' for granted. You need it for your health. Swear down.

Favourite book?
This is an odd one but one from work - McCance and Widdowson's The Composition of Food. I use this book every day. It's my holy grail. Anyone who's working in the world of nutrition or has ever ventured into the world of recipe analysis will have heard of this book. It's my Bible.

Favourite drink?
I've discovered I'm now officially old and like red wine. Also I now like cheese. And I like red wine and cheese together a lot.

Favourite clothes shop?
Monki! I ventured in for the first time the day of my Nestle assessment centre in April and I've been falling head over heels ever since. It's perfect, when I heard Estee (aka essiebutton) raving about it all dem years ago on Youtube, I presumed it was a skinny girls shop. Now, just incase anyone hadn't picked up on it but I'm not a size 8. But Monki actually go up to a size 18 and their sizes are SO generous (mostly, obvs there's a few twig bitch items in there to keep us on our toes). I also love that you can order from them on ASOS - aka resulting in free delivery, free returns and student discount. Amazeballs.

This Monki blouse is a particular favourite.
Next is also a close follow up - I'm in love with their jeggings and their work stuff is great, and relatively 'stylish'. It can be awks when a 60 year old woman is rocking the same top as you in the office though - majah downside.

Favourite shoe?
Heels wise, it's all about a court. I need a pointy toe in my life. So much classier than a rounded toe, it automatically just steps your outfit up so much.

Trainers - Nike Roshe Runs. Comfiest trainers I've ever owned, and loved my first pair so much I've just had a second delivered from ASOS. (these ones if you wanna nosey!)

Boots - Chelsea boots all the way. This is an obsession that literally happened me on Christmas day, my mum got me some grey Miss KG boots, and then I loved them so much I rushed out to buy some black ones from Dorothy Perkins too. So comfortable, dress 'em up, dress 'em down, wear 'em to work, wear 'em to town. Whatevz, they're perf.

Favourite make-up product?
Illamasquas 'Vernau' powder eyeshadow or the MAC holiday pigment and glitter set. Both worn to death, and both always look great either casual or full blown night out makeup.

Favourite film?
Latecomer to the party, but I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off in November after quite a bit of niggling from someone to watch it. It was great, so good that we recreated it and had our own day off in the Lake District and went hill walking (meh, but I actually really enjoyed it when we got to the top) and to a zoo where I got to feed a giraffe. SCORE. *inserts hearty eyes emoji*.

Favourite hair thing?
BEING ABLE TO TIE IT UP AGAIN.
It was actually at my shoulders!
Then I got pissed off with how thick it was and chopped it back into a bob.
Vicious circle begins again.

Favourite quote of the year?

I've always been quite a people pleaser, I did things to stay friends with people that probably now when you look back on it didn't want to be your friend anymore. But I've learnt to focus on numero uno now. I don't need other people's shit. I've got enough going on in this head of mine. Rid yourself of negative people and negative attitudes, they don't do anything to improve your life! Trust me.

Favourite memory of 2014?

Parklife! Standing in a field with some of my favourite people I've ever met in my life, dancing to Disclosure in the middle of a field is and was my best memory! Cannot wait to repeat this summer! Amazing!

Hope you enjoyed finding out about what some of my highlights/faves of the year were.
I really enjoyed writing this kind of mini/semi-tag.
I'd love it if you would do it too and send me links to read what your favourites were!

Until next time, much loves.

Wishlist Series #4

Hiyaaa guys!
Week 3 of the Wishlist series is from Matalan!
Matalan isn't a shop that everybody loves, some people really love it (and I'm one of them!) and some people really hate it!
I think the stuff they sell is of a high quality, and generally really well priced!
They have student discount, that you can use on top of sale prices as well which is brilliant!
For this post everything I've chosen is under £35, usually that's the highest priced thing they sell!
Obviously I've recently moved into new accommodation so homeware is something I love to keep an eye out for in Matalan so expect to see a few 'homey' bits in here!

Estée Lauder Haul.

Eveninggggg guys!

So as I've probably mentioned before I like to do surveys online to try and get myself some money saved up to allow me to shop without the guilt (usually I don't get much of that either though!). Not so long ago I hit my £20 target on Valued Opinions and decided my store of choice would be Boots for my next haul! Estée Lauder was the counter I hit, and I can't deny, I hit it hard.

I've heard a lot about the Doublewear Stay-In-Place Foundation, some things good, and some not so good - and I wanted to try it for myself! So I bought it to try it out for myself and I am IMPRESSED! The Estée Lauder counter assistant was really helpful choosing my shade and tried 3 different shades on me to see which would suit me best and I settled with Pure Beige! The foundation goes on so easily and really blends in well, and it really does last SO long, it's probably as close to a foundation tattoo that you can get at the minute. I wore it to Parklife all weekend and it didn't budge - even in the rain! It retails at £28.50, which is expensive, but I only plan to use it for nights out and events that I'm gonna be braving the elements in, such as a festival! It is far too heavy for everyday use, your skin would never need that kind of coverage on a daily basis! But for special occasions, this will be the first foundation I reach for! I love the packaging as well, so classy and elegant! It doesn't have a pump but I just pour a little onto my hand and it doesn't run away thanks to it's thick consistency!

Doublewear Stay-In-Place Foundation in 'Pure Beige'
The other product I purchased was the Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick in the shade 'Dominant'. It's the creamiest consistency and it literally glides on to your lips like a dream. I generally don't like creamy lipsticks because they don't last very long on my lips, but this lipstick is different. It's a bright vibrant pink that's not going ANYWHERE. I kept it on all day, and that included eating and drinking - and it looked just as good when I got home as when I left the house that morning! It's expensive, I can't lie, it retails at £24. It's the most expensive lipstick I've ever bought but I don't regret it, the price tag is really reflected in the quality of the product and it's staying power. The packaging is obviously included in the price, and it's a beautiful sleek design with a magnetic close. I'm wearing Dominant in the picture below! Swatches will be further on!

Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick in 'Dominant'
Yet another shameless selfie to show off a product ;-)
I always think it's important to remember with buying in Boots you do get Boots points which you can save up for other purchases! So at least you do get some reward for shopping in store! When I went to Boots, I only intended to purchase Doublewear, but there was a gift with purchase (GWP) on if you bought two things, and I'm a sucker for a gift with purchase! This gift with purchase was valued at over £90 so I think it justified my extra spending!

I received a gorgeous teal and navy tile print makeup bag, a Lipstick, a Moisturiser, a Mini Advanced Night Repair, a 4 piece Eyeshadow Palette, a Mascara, an Eyeliner and a Nail Polish. This was my first purchase of any Estée Lauder cosmetics, and getting the GWP really introduced me to a lot of new things I maybe wouldn't have been willing to purchase! I'm not going to go into toooo much detail, because basically I love everything and this post would be 4 hours of reading long!!

Advanced Night Repair and Daywear Moisturiser
Pure Colour Nail Lacquer in 'Blue Blood'

Pure Colour Lipstick in 'Bois de Rose'
L - 'Bois de Rose' & R - 'Dominant'

4 piece Eyeshadow Palette - I don't know the names I'm sorry! :(
Unfortunately I'm a major crap blogger and forgot to take pictures of both the Eyeliner and Mascara and I'm in Northern Ireland and they're in Manchester! Thankfully I know what they are so you can check the full size out online! I received the Pure Colour Intense Kajal Eyeliner in 'Blackened Black' - which really is super black and goes on so creamily, no tugging at your eyes! Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara in 'Extreme Black' - I love the brush of this mascara, It's now very much included in my mascara routine, and it's so black! I love black eyeliners and black mascara and Estée Lauder definitely supplies that!

I'm super impressed with everything that I bought, and it all feels glorious on my skin, I'm absolutely crap that I don't have the names for the eyeshadows! I will be able to get them when I get back to Manchester so if you would like to know, feel free to tweet me at @RachelVennard or send me an email at vennardr@hotmail.co.uk and I can fill you in!

Have you tried any Estée Lauder products?
What do you think of them and the brands?
Let me know!

Life Update!

Afternoon lovelies!

Soooo, I'm on the 2 week countdown until I start my 1 year student placement at Nestle! I'm joining the team as a Student Nutritionist in their Confectionery and Food departments and I am SO excited! It's the opportunity of a lifetime and I feel completely blessed to have got the position!

I'm moving to Gatwick (which is Nestles UK headquarters) so I'll be leaving Manchester for London! I'm living half an hour out of the city (approx!) but I still feel like I'm gonna be in the big smoke! London is one of my favourite places in the world, I love the atmosphere, I love the buzz and I love the tube!

People say that they find Londoners very rude and unhelpful, but it's one of the things I kind of love about the place! I like the whole 'fend-for-yourself' attitude, it teaches you to cope alone, and that's something I'm really trying to teach myself at the minute.. It's OKAY to be ALONE. I'm single, and I'm enjoying not being tied down to anything.. I think the two pictures below really sum it up quite well!

So, next Sunday, my mum, my brother and my little Clio will be setting off towards Scotland and then travelling to London, with a little stop off in Manchester to pack up my stuff and take my brother to the Manchester Metropolitan University open day! He's 18 and in September he'll be applying for University, not sure where he wants to go yet but he's definitely considering across the water! He said something the other day which is super true for people from Northern Ireland - they tend to stay at the two universities in Northern Ireland, either Queens or University of Ulster!

Ryan turned around to me and said "It's a 3rd of the price of going across the water, but you only have a third of the opportunity!" - as a big sister (even though he's 6ft2 and everyone thinks I'm the youngest) it made me proud! It's not easy going away to uni, but honestly moving across the water has been the best thing that's ever happened me! I was a homebird that cried for my mum when I was a Scout and we drove 20 minutes away for an overnight camp! Going away has cut the apron strings, I'm independent, I don't like relying on my parents anymore or anyone else for that matter! Things can be difficult, but the below saying in the picture really sums it up for me - if somethings easy, you never work for anything, or learn anything from it! And thats why 'A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor' is my motto in life'!

Just wanted to do a little life update as I'm probably gonna be quite absent over the next wee while, I'm gonna be working hard and adjusting to a full 9-5 life, unfortunately retail and it's unpredictable shifts don't really set you up for that kind of lifestyle!

Thank you to anyone that reads my blog, I really appreciate it - it's nothing amazing but I do love blogging whenever I have the time and I hope you all like reading it :)

Lots of love guys and girls!

"Shopping Is My Cardio" - Pt. 2.

I'm back with Part 2 of my rather large Christmas Sales haul!
I'll get stuck straight in, and once again I'll try and post links to anything that's still available online!

New Look Blue Platform Shoes, No7 'The Eyes Collection', Origins 'Make A Difference Rejuvenating Set', Soap & Glory 'Powder Trip', Muse Neon Green Chain Necklace & New Look Blue Double Ankle Strap Heels.
The loveliest, most beautiful thing that has EVER touched my skin. I tell no lies, this is amazing!! I stumbled upon this in Boots the sale section, not expecting it to BE in the sale, but it WAS! £19.33 for ALL of this!! That is a FULL SIZE moisturiser that costs £34.00 alone!! It smells beautiful and refreshing on your face! It contains the 'Make A Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Moisturiser', 'Make A Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Treatment Lotion', 'Make A Difference Rejuvanting Hand Treatment' and the 'Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask'.  I'm just head over heels in love with it all. The overnight mask is my favourite, I just want to use it everyday, my face is loving it! If you can, go to Boots, nosey about and I hope you will stumble across this beauty. :)

This little lovely kit was £6, I really couldn't leave it behind! It has 3 Limited Edition No7 eyeshadows, a No7 eye colour brush (A MAC 217 BRUSH DUPE - HOLY SHMOKES) and a No7 smokey eye brush! The shadows don't have names but check out the swatches below :) The eye colour brush  and the smokey eye brush are £7.25 each so the full kit with 3 additional eyeshadows for £6 is a steaaaaal.

I told myself I didn't need this palette, I reassured myself when I got home that I didn't need this palette.. A few days later I turned off a motorway on the way home from a shopping excursion at 7pm at night to get this palette. Some may say I have issues, I just say I'm dedicated.
The Soap & Glory 'Powder Trip' was £10 down from £20, and contained 3 of their legendary face products, 'Solar Powder' (bottom left), 'Glow All Out' (top left) and 'Love at First Blush'  (top right) alongside a half-moon powder brush. Solar Powder was my FIRST ever bronzer and I adored it, even when I was a makeup virgin.. So I wanted it back in my life whenever I seen this kit! I was worried that it would be bulky but compared to having 3 individual powders it's actually a lot easier! The three individuals also have a hefty £33 price tag, so all three for £10 is a steal. It's still online, buy it now. You won't regret it. ;-)

This was my New Years Eve outfit! All sale bargains (except the shoes but that's okay!)
Skirt - F&F Leather Mini Skirt - £5
Necklace - Muse Neon Green Chain Necklace - £5
Earrings - Topshop Chunky Chain Hoops - £4

I'm pretty chuffed with this outfit, considering the top and skirt only cost me £10! The accessories are more expensive than I would generally buy but the shoes are so comfy I know I will get SO much wear out of them.

The other New Look shoes I bought aren't in the sale online but they were £8! I didn't think I could wear the strappy style shoes but they're so comfy. Perfect interview or night out shoes.. You'll last all day no matter what you're doing!

I also treated myself to my first online Illamasqua purchase! I bought the Light Liquid Foundation in Shade LF140. I did struggle to find the shade I should buy but I recommend googling swatches in comparison to other foundations you own, there's enough beauty bloggers out there someone will have what you're looking for! The foundation is so lovely!! And it smells like vanilla, I'm in love! Really good coverage for a light foundation and turned out it was the exact match for my skin! It's a bank breaker at £27 usually for 30ml, but for a tenner in the sale its great! Free p&p as well! Brilliant!

Finally, just a pic of my nails that I rocked on New Years Eve, for approximately 1 hour because I'm pretty sure by the time it hit midnight I only had 3 left...

Hope you enjoyed my splurges!
I'm seriously considering cutting up my bank card.
NO MORE SHOPPING.
Everyone, say it with me!!!

Have a lovely week guys and I'll talk to you sooooon! :)

The Beauty Blogger Tag!!

Helloo!
Today's post is a little different, just a little get to know me post! It's my 21st Birthday on Tuesday (the 15th) and I'm heading home for a few days with my family so I doubt I'll have time for much blogging action!
I googled Beauty tags and this was the first one that popped up so lets get stuck in!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
My hairs naturally quite wavy when it's longer but when it's in this shorter length that I've been rocking for the past few years its now naturally quite straight! Mainly because it's cut where it used to kink! Handy ;-)

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
For years I dyed it myself, but all the home dyeing had left my hair quite dead and lifeless! I got it stripped and now I'm gonna try and stick to getting it dyed in the salon! It's so much nicer and my hair is a lot silkier now yay!

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
Generally I do wear the same style everyday, just straight! But if I'm going out for the night I do tend to try and use my straighteners to make it wavy and make it a bit more exciting! I absolutely swear by the backcombing powders that are on the market at the minute, they;re my holy grail hair product! Alongside lots of hairspray as well!

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
I do my own pedicures but I do go to a salon to get my acrylic nails done.. I never manage to stick to the one colour for the whole month though so I do tend to repaint my nails!

5. How often do you change your nail polish?
I usually change the colour about once a week! I never have to worry about chipping because of my acrylics!

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?
My tootsies stay polished all year round! My toenails are tiny though so actually painting them is a right task!

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?
Depending on how much time I have! Usually for Uni or Work it takes me around 15 minutes, but for a night out it can take me about 30 minutes to an hour but that's usually because I get distracted by choosing music to listen to as I get ready!

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
Usually face! Unless I'm experimenting with bright colours or glitter, because I hate it when it falls on your face and you end up having to take it all off again!

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
I'm a student and I don't have that much money, so I do try and just buy what I need.. BUT whenever I see a good offer or a product I love in multiple colours I do tend to stock up! Naughty :D

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
I'm not one of those people that wear false eyelashes every day, I only wear them for nights out!! But I do wear HUGE ones for a night out, I've got low set eyes so its the only way I can actually add any real definition to my face :(

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?
I do tend to wear makeup everyday, but for uni or work its generally, foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara and maybe lipstick if I'm feeling adventurous! But generally it's pretty simple!

12. Do you wear makeup when you're home alone or with family?
If I'm not going out anywhere I don't tend to wear makeup unless someone important is coming round and I want to impress :)

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Yes! I'm not afraid of leaving without makeup, I just prefer not to! But if I sleep in I will leave without it!

14. How many high-end products do you have?
I have a few high end products, about 10 MAC items, and a Lancome & a Chanel mascara! But I prefer to only buy something high end if I know I'm going to LOVE it! But I do love MAC, I really want to buy myself a MAC palette so I might start when I get my birthday money through!
